THE BRIEF
SCMF designs, fabricates and installs bespoke gates and railings for residential and architectural projects across Sussex and the South East.
Rather than working to a single standard system, each project is developed around the property, architectural setting and practical requirements of the site. This can range from contemporary minimal railings through to more decorative gates and one-off metalwork.
TECHNICAL
DEVELOPMENT
Each project begins with the requirements of the individual site. Depending on the commission, SCMF can work from architectural drawings, develop an existing design or produce a fabrication solution following a site survey.
Particular consideration is given to proportions, fixing methods, material selection, gates and hinges, site tolerances and how the finished metalwork interfaces with existing walls, steps and landscaping.

FABRICATION
Projects are fabricated in the material appropriate to the individual design, including mild steel and stainless steel.
Components are developed around the required proportions, fixing details and site conditions before fabrication, finishing and installation. Where mild steel is used externally, the appropriate protective finish is specified according to the location and intended appearance.

RESULT
Together, these projects demonstrate the range of approaches possible within bespoke gates and railings, from restrained contemporary metalwork to more individual architectural details.
Each installation is developed around its specific setting rather than adapted from a standard off-the-shelf system.
