The Brief
SCMF was commissioned by Modern Art Oxford to fabricate a series of modular stainless steel table bases for use within the gallery.
The project comprised six large and two small units, with the individual components designed to work together to create circular table configurations.
Technical Development
Modern Art Oxford supplied the design information and SketchUp model for the project, which SCMF reviewed and translated into the practical requirements for workshop fabrication.
An important part of the design was maintaining consistency across the individual modular units so that separate components could be positioned together accurately to create the intended circular arrangement.

Eight modular table bases were fabricated in brushed stainless steel, comprising six large and two smaller units.
Consistency of geometry across the individual sections was particularly important because the separate bases were designed to work together as parts of a larger circular arrangement.
The stainless steel was finished with a brushed surface, with black tube plugs fitted to the feet to protect the gallery floor. The tops of the legs were intentionally left open in accordance with the supplied design.
Finished Result
The completed set provided Modern Art Oxford with a flexible system of modular table bases that could be arranged together to create larger circular configurations.
The project combines repeat fabrication, accurate geometry and visible stainless steel finishing within a piece of functional gallery furniture.
