The Brief
This geometric sculpture was developed to explore the translation of complex three-dimensional forms into precisely fabricated sheet metal.
The design required the finished sculpture to appear as a coherent angular form while being manufactured from a series of individual components that could be accurately cut, formed and assembled.
Technical Development
The sculpture was first developed as a three-dimensional model, allowing the overall proportions, geometry and relationships between individual surfaces to be resolved before fabrication.
The digital form was then broken down into manufacturable components, establishing the cut profiles, fold lines and junctions required to reproduce the geometry accurately in metal.

Fabrication
Individual components were precision cut before being folded, formed and carefully assembled to create the sculpture's three-dimensional geometry.
Accuracy was particularly important throughout fabrication, as small variations between individual panels could accumulate across the structure and affect the alignment of the finished form.
The completed piece demonstrates SCMF's ability to translate complex digital geometry into accurately fabricated sculptural metalwork.
Finished Result
The finished sculpture combines a highly geometric visual language with the precision and material character of fabricated metal.
The development and fabrication process can be adapted to create bespoke sculptural pieces at different scales and in materials including mild steel, Corten, stainless steel, brass and copper.
